Goddess TrendAuthor: The Fashhh Team Date: 2009-01-27 17:18 Aphrodite. Athena. Hera. Lets face it, the Greek goddesses conjure up images of elegance, power, and earth-shattering beauty. There’s a reason why these ladies have had a lasting impression on our cultural consciousness (as well as our Classics departments). The goddess dress is nothing new. After all, elegant Greek inspired dresses have been seen on the catwalks for the last few seasons, as well as the continuing popularity of the gladiator sandal for summer.

Dressing Up In The Financial CrisisAuthor: Becky Cope Date: 2009-01-22 18:38 In the economic climate, a return to 1940s rural fashion is on the cards. After all its just oh-so-fitting. Strapped for cash during and after World War 2, we economised our wardrobes and stuck to practical, simple numbers that were also pretty to beat the doom and gloom. Strapped for cash because of the economic downturn and recession, we can do the same. ![]() The high street is awash with Anglocentric vintage fashion. It can be found in New Look, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, and those are just the main three! Think ditsy floral prints and embroidery adorned tops and cardigans, combined with pastel-coloured trousers and skirts. And don’t forget your gingham! Accessorize with cute bow detailing and keep it simple with brown or white Oxford flats for your feet. Add a retro net fascinator for a bit of extra glamour. Just have fun with it! The look is reminiscent of British summer holidays and caravanning in Cornwall – and yes, that’s a good thing! This look is so different to the trends that have dominated the catwalk for the last few seasons. There’s no sign of constrictive bodycon, bondage fetishes or haphazard footwear. It is no where near as serious. It’s all about practicality, wearability and fresh fun, think rollicking in the countryside or on the beach with an ice-cream and the chance of a donkey ride. So yes, “we do all love to be beside the sea-side”, as the song goes, if this is what we are wearing! 1. Floral top from Topshop. 2. Floral day dress from New Look. 3. Floral print shift from Topshop. 4. Fascinator from Accessorize. 5. White Jeans from Topshop. 6. Oxford flats from Office. Becky Cope is a new writer for our blog. Hot to CropAuthor: Becky Cope Date: 2009-01-15 20:35 Be afraid, be very afraid. The cropped top, exposed midriff and barely there underwear as outwear are back with a vengeance. Last seen circa 1998 on Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera on tour, this staple of 1990s and pop star fashion is back for the end of the decade. But this time, its high fashion. REALLY. ![]() God-like designer for the youth, Alexander Wang, flaunted his models’ midriffs with a cut off sweater in dusty lilac – a look I think that we can all embrace (minus a few Big Macs and plus about 100 sit ups!) Forever edgy, Vivienne Westwood Red Label also picked up on the trend, giving the traditional print suit a playful twist with a cropped top matched with pencil skirt. Even Prada got in on the action, with models parading black cropped underwear as outwear, teamed with skirts and jackets, all in elegant black to keep it from looking trashy. So embrace your inner Clueless and Saved By The Bell, and relive the youthful playfulness of the 1990s. Cropped tops can be found at Topshop in the ‘Work it’ range and at Urban Outfitters. Now that’s what I call some good exposure! Becky Cope is a new writer for our blog. What do you think of this blogpost? Send us your opinion on e-mail. 1 COMMENT

Everyone Needs a Magic RingAuthor: Becky Cope Date: 2009-01-14 12:30 With recession looming over us, and endless tack being shoved in our faces during the sales, we could all do with a bit of magic injected into our wardrobes. ![]() Amanita Matina’s statement cocktail rings will do just that. As magical as a genie’s lamp on a really magic day, these epic, knuckle-dusting rings complete every outfit and save us from dismal January/Recession doom and gloom. Aptly named the ‘Globe Trotter’ collection, these rings encompass a tiny world on your finger – from India’s Taj Mahal, Gaudi’s Domes, Bondi Beach and Manhattan’s Chrysler Building – what more could you want from a ring? Each centre piece is an iconic construction with the magical capability of transporting you to another place, set off in pretty pastel hues or hauntingly darker tones. These rings are refreshingly edgy and attention-grabbing at a time when most people need a bit of childlike excitement in their life. My favourite is the Chrsyler Building. Check them out at Kabiri.co.uk. Becky Cope is a new writer for our blog. What do you think of this blogpost? Send us your opinion on e-mail. 2 COMMENTS
