The do's and don'ts of Bikini Fashion

Wearing a bikini can be great both for you and the people watching. But bikins are minefields, there are tons of mistakes that can be made. Here are our most important do's and don'ts of bikini fashion.

Don’t wear microkinis

A microkini is simply a bikini with only enough fabric to cover the genitalia. Every since this provocative bikini form emerged in the early 1970's in Venice Beach, California, they have been a living proof of bad fashion sense and a good alternative to Viagra. So please, before wearing one, consider this:  It's both more effective and cooler to send Hugh Hefner your home made video. And at least that makes a good story.

Do wear white

A white bikini can be the most sexy thing on earth. But it can just as easily be a big mistake. The most important thing to remember when pulling off a white bikini is to keep it simple and small. And do remember to work out a week or two before wearing it.

This ones is taken from this years Victoria Secret collection.

Don’t wear bikinis if you’re a body builder.

Bikinis look their best on thin bodies. Lets face it – you’re not gonna look sexy in a bikini if you’re the female version of Arnold Schwarznegger. There is something about those breast muscles pushing the bikini top to its limits that kind of gives us the creeps. And the feeling that we're not in a beach, but rather in a odd discoteque in Amsterdam.

Do try dots and patterns

There is nothing wrong with patterns on your bikini. Look at this girl, the white dots on the green garnment looks superhot! From Victoria Secret collection. Just don't go too crazy. You're not a leopard or a zebra.

Do wax before wearing a bikini

Nothing ruins the day easier than seeing women with hair on their bikni line. Its kind of the same deal as with underwear: If your underwear don't cover your body hair, don't blame the underwear...

Don’t show cleavage on the sides

One thing is to have a sexy bikini, that’s no problem with us. But it’s a completely different thing if you wear the bikini top in a way that’s showing side or under-cleavage. It might work in American Pie. But it won't work in the real world.

Don’t wear a see-through

There is a reason clothing exists. Just image Dick Cheney without it ...
Our advice: Avoid see-throughs at all cost. They are tacky, not very sexy, and screams "I need attention". And when not even Britney has been spotted in one, why would you want to be it?

Fashion phones

3 fashion phones we like

Everyone with a hint of fashion sense have replaced their chubby HTC with a slimmer, more stylish phone. If you have'nt made the transformation yet, we have 3 strong recommendations for you.

The supersexy Samsung Armani

Why? Look at it! Who cares if there aint 3G? It could have been delievered with out the sms function and still be the greatest phone out there.

The masculine Porsche

It looks like a sort of industrial phone, if you catch my drift. Its ... so solid. Maybe it has something to do with the use of aluminium. This could be a wrong move, but its not. It is the exact opposite. Superbold. Superhot.

The jeans phone

Well, who could imagine that Levis would sell phones some day? Not me, for sure. This one is made by ModeLabs for Levis. I dont care if it actually is a upgraded Samsung P300. It rocks.

Did'nt you read the text in the blog post? It says that its based on a Samsung phone. Of course it works fine. Levis has just designed it, I think. I adored that Porsche phone!:)

I actually caught myself wanting a Levis phone. But, now that I have been thinking about it, it strikes me that I should limit myself to Levis pants. Its cool, but can it really be any good?

Top 10 list: best dressed rockers of today

Author: The Fashhh Team
Date: 2008-03-26 15:17

The new fashion icons

Some of the best dressed persons today are frontmen of the indie rock scene. These are our absolute favourites.

10. James Righton, Simon Taylor-Davis and Jamie Reynolds (Klaxons)

The Klaxons started the so-called new rave-wave in music, but also when it came to clothing. Suddenly everyone wanted to mix and match colors that you wouldn’t mix when you were into rock. Red with purple? Yes. Blue with orange? Sure. Yellow with red? Of course. Metallic and gold? Yes (even before it became a hit).

The Klaxons were trendsetters, and in front of the band: Jamie Reynold, Simon Tayler-Daavis and James Righton.

 9. Jared Followill (Kings of Leon)

When Kings of Leon first kicked off and made it big, by indie standards, the band got most publicity for their 70s style. Lead singer Caleb Followill had a mustache, long hair, too short shirts and too tight pants. The band  quickly got labeled, as every other cool, good looking, skinny rock band “The Strokes from somewhere”, as many others did as well. Kings of Leon was the Strokes from the south. But, as time evolved, Caleb dropped the lousy, yet cool, mustache and got muscles. He changed from singing about missing erections and screwing in some car, to a little more mature lyrics. And with the lyric shif, the style shifted as well. The band started wearing black, white and grey clothing. Caleb Followill, the youngest member of the band, had always had a good fashion sense, but he really started to shine at this stage. His cleavage grew, his ornaments doubled and his super skinny jeans, like the rest of the band, remained. It got him and the band several pages in the Australian GQ in august 2005,  and a reputation of dressing cool instead of retro.

 8. Josh Homme (QOTSA)

When you are a redheaded male, you’re on thin ice. But if you manage to turn that into a positive thing, you are a genius. Well, the Queens of The Stone Age-singer really knows how to make it work. His superslick apperance, his always trimmed hair and unbuttoned shirts make him look like a sex machine. Nice work, Josh.

 7. Brandon Flowers (The Killers)

As The Killers smash hit cd Hot Fuss sold over 5 million copies, the Killers quickly rose to fame in 2005. Frontman Flowers got known for his use of make up, but no one was surprised. After all, the band is from Las Vegas. Nowadays, three years after, Brandon has a beard, has dropped the make up, and seem a lot more grown up. However, he never lost his good sense of style. His Wayfarers are cool, his use of golden suits are cool and his beard is cool. It all makes the perfect setting for the Vegas-band, and the perfect exuse for Flowers to dress up.

 6. Howlin' Pelle Almqvist (The Hives)

The Swedes have always been good builders in brand marketing. Ikea, Volvo, Ericsson. They are all from Sweden. But lately, their fashion scene have really made a breakthrough. Tiger of Sweden, J. Lindeberg, Fillipa K and Acne are just a few examples of exciting designer labels from Sweden. And then, of course, you have H&M. The Swedes sure know how to dress. No wonder then, that the only (we know) indie rock band that tries to use a 50s style in their clothing line, is from Sweden. The Hives, with vocalist Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist in front, use similar suits, similar ties and similar shoes. Mostly black and white-combination. And it works. Its retro. Its cool.

5. Devonte Hynes (Lightspeed Champion)

The ex-Test Icicle band member Devonte Hynes, now known as the definite of Lightspeed Champion, is pretty far from what you would expect from an afroamerican singer. He plays soft indie ballads in Lightspeed Champion and dress up in skinny jeans, colourful t-shirts and cardigans, even a bow-tie sometimes, and he occacionally tops it all with a noticeable faux-fur hat. And those glasses. Those geeky, yet cool glasses. It all makes a Dev Hynes stand out in the crowd. In a good way.

 4. Jack White (White Stripes / The Raconteurs)

Not since the Ferrarri first launched their finest red automobiles have red been this cool. Jack and Meg White made red and white, red and black and red and red look awesome on their pale bodies. It could seem ridiculous, if it had not been for their addictive riffs, catchy tunes and smart lyrics. But, put together with the music, it worked very, very well. And today, about seven years after their breaktrough album, White Blood Cells, it still works.

 3. Pete Doherty (Babyshambles)

You could criticize Pete Doherty for his drug abuse. Or for his alcohol abuse. But there is three things you cant take away from that man. First, he dates Kate Moss. Second, he makes brilliant music – both the Libertines and Babyshambles serves as proof. And third, he has a very cool style that have influenced several others. A hat, a trenchoat and a very tired skinny hungover rocker never looked this cool. Its is not by accident that Gio-Goi put together a Pete Doherty signature-collections.

 2. Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance)

My Chemical Romance are perhaps the worlds most successful emo rock band,  which basically means that the tunes are emotional, filled with self-doubt, thoughts of suicide, problems and so on. Gerard Way claims that the band is not emo, but when you name a song “I’m not okay (I promise!)”, what do you expect people to call you? Well, anyways, the band hve been made famous for their style, which consists of dark, well fitted clothes. Dolce & Gabanna made their “Welcome to the Black Parade”-wear, which kind of looked like army tunics. And in worked very well.

 1. Julian Casablancas (The Strokes)

Ever since the Strokes were hyped as the next big thing, and were labelled “saviors of rock” back in 2001, they have almost gotten just as much press coverage for the looks and fashion as for their music. The band loves to mix old used garments with new fashion, and they’re style became the defining style for the new garage rock bands that emerged after The Strokes.

Lead singer, Julian Casablancas, have changed style a numerous times. In the beginning he loved the used army jackets you normally get in Camden Market in London, mixed with a tie and pinstriped shirt. Now he wears a tunic as well, just a different one, but he never mixes it with a tie. Instead he wears the black tunic with black jeans and a blac shirt. When he doesn’t wear the tunic, he wears a leather jacket.

It’s a shame that tabloids have almost neglected Casablancas the past couple of years when it comes to cool, laid back rock and roll-style, and focused only on Pete Doherty. Because, even though Doherty may dress well, Casablancas is a tint sharper, and right now: The best dressed rocker around.

Tips&Tricks

How to take a good picture for your profile

There are a few things that will make your next profile picture at Fashhh way better than the one you have now.

Some of the pictures at Fashhh are really, really great. They display the outfit in the best way possible and they are really eye candy for us working here. Since we hate to remove bad pictures, we have made this guide for you, making it easy to snap good images for your profile. Here are our best photo tips for Fashhh:

1. Use a clean background

Think simple! Its very easy to let the background get in the way of the outfit. Just use a plain wall, a sheet, or anything else that does not take the attention away from the outfit. A noisy backgroud will easily make your outfit look bad.

2. Show the whole body, unless a unique detail is shown

Let the person on the picture almost fill the entire picture. Dont cut the legs, the arms or anything, and dont let the person be a small part of the picture. You're showing off the outfit of the persons, not the surroundings. And we dont care much for headshots.

You can however use a image that don't show the entire body, if it in some way shows off a cool detail on the picture. Like this one, showing the fun cap and the blue top:

3. Be alone

Don't upload pictures of multiple persons. You'll just confuse the voter. If there are other persons in the picture, you should by the definitive centre of attention

4. Be original

We want original, cool outfits here. Your outfit don't have to be catwalk material, but it has to be original in some way. A little twist, a fun detail, strong colors or just a good mix is what we're looking for. Do like Young Jimmy, spice things up for us:

5. Think abouth technical quality

Your picture does not have to be of superb technical quality. But try to avoid pictures that obviously are of bad quality.

Stylefile: Sina Sook Kleven (17), Norway

Every once in a while we'll do interviews with some of the most stylish people here at Fashhh. First out; Number 3 on the top 50 chart at the moment, Sina Sook Kleven from Oslo.

- Tell us something about yourself:
- Theres nothing much to tell. I'm a girl from Norway. In my spare time I dance, that is what I do every single day. My fashioninspiration comes from iphop dancing and old school. I have many different styles.

- Describe your style:
- My style is just a mix of clothes I want to wear. Its what I feel comfortable in. I like old school and I love colours, but I mix many different styles every day. I can be classy, old school or hiphopish. Whatever I feel comfertable in.

- What do you think of Fashhh.com?
- Fashhh is a good place for people who love fashion to find inspiration and show their style. One gets to know other people who love fashion and discuss et al.

- What is fashion for you?
- I cant descrbe what fashion is for me. I buy stuff all the time, becasue I just LOVE clothes, and I LOVE shoes. I have 100 pairs of shoes or something... Fashion is what people wear. And clothes express how you are and what you are feeling.

- What is the worst thing some one can wear?
- There is nothing thats bad. Everybody has their style, and their set of clothes they like. I think people should wear whatever they want to wear, and what makes them feel comfortable. How would the world look like if every one dressed alike?

- The most important question, someone would say: What do you think of Crocs?

- Not my style. but I dont judge people who wear them.

- One fashion advice for the world?
- Be yourself. Wear whatever!

Top 10 ways to dress like a geek

Author: The Fashhh Team
Date: 2008-03-12 11:49

The easiest way to spot a geek is by his clothes. Here are our top 10 signs in clothing and accessories, that shows off a geek:

10. You have a graphic equalizer on your t-shirt

This El Lit Glowing Equalizer animates to ambient noise or music. And the batteries is being kept in a small interior pocket inside the shirt. Anyone willing to wear 4 AAA batteries in his shirt has to be a geek.

9. Your braclet is made of LEGO

Lets face it. You're grown up. You don't need to wear a stupid bracelet made by LEGO. If you trully want to wear a bracelet, we suggest that you buy a real one.

8. Your earrings can show the temperature

Lets hope noone wears this one.

7. You're wearing socks in your sandals

This is one of the worst fashion mistakes ever, because of two things. First, so many people are doing this! Second, it is so easy to forget to drop the socks. But, nevertheless, there are no real excuses for this. Just drop it, will you?

6. Your heart-necklace says <3

Smileys, <3, L8R. It's sick enough to write things like that in your instant messenger, but way sicker to wear it around your neck. Or your girlfriends neck, for that matter.

5. You pretend you are an astronaut

There aren't so many ways to know for sure if somebody is a virgin or not. But this jetpack is proof enough.

4. Steve Jobs is your fashion idol

At least you'll have to stop worrying about what to put on in the morning. Just use a black shirt, blue Levis 501 jeans, black sneakers that are out of fashion and a pair of round glasses.

3. You're wearing a shirt saying you're not a geek ...

Okay, so it's a joke. But who wants to brag about playing Warcraft anyway?

2. Its not a necklace around your neck. It's a brand new Creative headset

Its should come with a warning: "Not to be worn in public."

1. You wear cufflinks that says Esc and Ctrl

There was a time, a good time, when cufflinks were reserved for the elite. That time is gone. Now there is a great selection of cufflinks out there, and some of these cufflinks are amazing. In a bad way. Like this one.

If you ever meet anyone wearing this, you'll be sure that they 100% geek.

Top 10 garments nobody should ever wear

Author: The Fashhh Team
Date: 2008-03-04 13:50

Some things are meant for the garbage can or clothing bank only. Here is our "Top 10 garments nobody should ever wear"-list:

10. Ties that are not ties

There is a reason why the tie (that’s not really a tie) in the picture is intended for small boys. It’s never proper to wear a tie with an elastic band like this one. If you can’t tie a normal tie, you probably shouldn’t be wearing one at all. Or as I like to put it: If you can’t tie your tie, then you shouldn’t leave your house. At all.

9. Male skirts

Also known as Kilts. I am sorry, Scotland, if I am crossing some line right now. I don’t mean to offend and I don’t like to criticize traditional national dress. But I’ll make an exception for this one. I mean, come on. Kilts are ridiculous in the first place, but when they're becoming fashionable, that’s when I start to object.

8. Umbrella hat

If you ever see me wearing one of these, please kill me. And it’s not because of the Canadian flag.

7. Leg warmers

The 80s gave us lots and lots and lots of idiotic fashion ideas that we should have abandoned as soon as they emerged. One of these ideas was the leg warmer, which is essentially an item of clothing intended to warm your leg. Well, I wouldn’t know if they actually do keep your legs warm, but I do know that they’ll make you burn in fashion hell when your life is over. And that’s worse than having cold legs today.

6. Tracksuits

A tracksuit is supposed to be worn before, during or after working out, but instead somebody likes wearing it while doing something else, like shopping or going to the pub. Tracksuits should never be worn anywhere, not even if you are hammered in the middle of the day on a deserted campsite somewhere in the north of Sweden. And that says a lot.

5. Bumbags (aka Fanny Packs in the US)

It was kind of obvious that this one had to be on the list. Wearing a bumbag signals three things, unless you’re trying to reach the top of Mount Everest. Number one: You are a tourist. (Why don’t you just wear a t-shirt saying “mug me” instead?) Number two: You have no sense of style what so ever. Three: You are a 50 year old male and your wife has stopped caring about how you look..

4. Belts with LED display

Belts are supposed to be simple. Not too wide, not too flashy. But some people don’t get that. They think belts are just another accessory that’s supposed to be screaming “Look at me”! Therefore they wear giant belt buckles with LED-displays that say “I am cool” or “You’re hot”. I don’t hang out with these people. And I never will.

3. T-shirts with stupid slogans

It doesn’t matter if you a strong opinion about something or not; just don’t put it on a t-shirt! T-shirts should be simple, cool and can perhaps, very occasionally, have a brand name on the chest. They are not supposed to be emblazoned with lame slogans saying “Rehab is for quitters”, “My mom is hotter than your mom” or “I have ten inches in my pants”.

2. Grills

Ever since New Yorker Eddie Plain started the trend of Grills, the world has been a darker place. And this happened back in the 80s. However, it’s onlyrecently that the major hip hop artists, as well as celebrities from outside the hip hop scene, have started wearing them. And they cost up to $30 000 -40 000. It is this kind of thing that makes me want to ban both jewellery and hip hop.

1. Crocs

I don’t care if they are the only pair of shoes availablewhile you’re trying to escape a burning house. Or whatever your excuse might be. Crocs should be banned. When creators Lyndon Hanson, Scott Seamans and George Boedecker created this monster in 2002 they were intended to be used as a boating shoe. Well, even if I owned the largest yacht on the planet, I wouldn’t consider wearing them. And neither should you.

Crocs. The one and only pair of shoes I never really understood the idea of wearing. Even if they won't smell because they're made of god-knows-what that is NOT enough of a reason to wear them. Banning these montruosities isn't enough people should destroy them and every reference made to these things.

You are wrong about kilts. They are not the Scottish national dress but have a hisorical and cultural significance to Scots. Therefore, to call them rediculous is way out of order. Thousands of Scots and those of Scottish descent wear them with pride on many different occasions. Whether or not they are a fashion accessory is debatable, although Jean Paul Gaulltier thought that they were. I wonder if you would be so ready to critisize the Dishdashah in such an of hand manner.

The bulgarian fashion blog http://coolbulgarians.blogspot.com/ have written about us. Here is what they wrote:

Fashhh.com is a one of a kind web-based community featuring a unique gallery of international styles, published in the website by people from all over the world. Anyone can submit their pictures, wearing their favourite styles, and those pictures will then in turn be ranked by the visitors of the site. Pictures can be browsed by ranking and people can vote for them on the scale from 1 to 10. There are also top list sections of best females, best males, best Europe, etc.

Behind the idea of the website are several cool guys from Bodø, Norway - Per-Kjetil Skare, Øyvind Skålsvik, Geir Are Jensen and Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen. The authors say their site is for fashion-minded people and they are looking forward to receiving pictures from all over the world.

Check out the bulgarian blog - lots of good inspiration on the site!
