Springs Biggest Trends: As Spotted on FashhhAuthor: Becky Cope Date: 2009-03-09 11:44 Spring is around the corner and the sun is finally out. This means one thing for fashionistas everywhere: the reinvention of the spring wardrobe. But don't worry what to wear, here's the fashion spring manual! Every year we clear out the winter woollies; big jumpers, coats and hats, and replace them with warmer weather staples, as well as vibrant new looks fresh off the catwalks. This spring think Alexa Chung blazers, boho headbands and indie hats, playful print tights and acid wash denim. This is basically the best time to inject a bit of fresh life into your daily attire with new colours and patterns, whilst also keeping it practical. And remember, this was all found on Fashhh first with its delightfully stylish members, who sport the 6 key looks featured! These are the things you need to update your 2009 spring wardrobe. Acid Wash Denim ![]() As seen on this lovely lady, denim is everywhere this spring. It cropped up on more catwalks than usual last September, with Balmain’s and Alexander Wang’s rock star inspired looks having a team of imitators on the high street. Denim jackets straight out of the nineties are heading for a come back, and add a really youthful touch to pretty summer dresses. They can be found everywhere from Topshop to New Look, as well as in charity shops. Denim look leggings are also really big at the moment, with great pairs to be found on www.asos.co.uk and at Urban Outfitters. This style is all about vitality and practicality; after all, denim was invented for working men! So throw on some stylish denim pieces for spring, but remember not to wear more than one item as otherwise it can look too matchy-matchy as well as a little bit Britney Spears circa 1999! Indie Hats ![]() These bad boys are the stylish girls weapon of choice this year, and I predict that they are going to be massive at the summer’s festivals. Just look at the obsession with them at Wunderkind and Betsey Johnson! Worn by fashionistas from Keira Knightley to Kate Moss, Erin O’Connor to Sienna Miller, the trilby really is one of the easiest ways to jazz up the most casual of spring outfits. Wear them with jeans and t-shirts for a bit of Erin Wasson-esque laidback chic, or with a little black dress to give it a rock star quality. Its not just trilbies being worn either. In fact, head wear is becoming one of the key signs of a fashionable lady. At London Fashion Week in February I spotted girls wearing Peter Pan felt hats, as well as little straw numbers and the ubiquitous beanie. Basically, you need a hat! Particularly good for bad hair days, and protection from the sun. See, fashion IS practical sometimes. Blazers ![]() The blazer has had a renewed life force for the past few seasons, and this season is no exception – just look at Alexander Wang. We’ve seen it cropped and oversize, and this spring I’m in favour of the oversized version as spotted on this Fashhh member. There is something so stylish about the way that a blazer can instantly add a bit of elegance to any outfit, as well as conversely its boyish charm and androgynous appeal. Blazers aren’t just for high school and your dad anymore. They are integral to every girls wardrobe (and boys!) They have an indie rep, and a well-deserved one, as they are a bit rock-n-roll in the same way that smart hats have been adapted to suit the lead singers of indie bands and their fans. We’re not ready to part with them yet – and they will definitely be sticking around this spring. Grab one with crazy brass buttons, team it with a few vintage brooches and you’ve got a hot new look that no one else is wearing. Headbands ![]() These are just getting better and better every season, with more experimentation and as the fashion world grows to love them as something of a twenty-first century staple. Spotted on the catwalk of Diane Von Furstenberg and on all the front rows, these are the fashionistas favourite accessory. They have a great hippy vibe and boho feel, and instantly transform your look. Think faux hair plaits, silver chain, gold gem stones, feathers and beading. Wear more than one combined to create a newer, bolder look. Pick them up on the high street and from online boutiques that make them specially. Everyone needs to have at least one. I have about 8. They are all 100% necessary! The best thing about them is that they go with everything – it is impossible to wear one that clashes. Vibrant Prints ![]() It’s spring, it’s sunny outside (hopefully!) so why not get a little bit colourful for once? Bold patterns were everywhere on the s/s 09 catwalks, with everything from Christopher Kane’s animal prints to Wunderkind’s rose prints. Winter clothing is famed for its use of monotones and chic black, grey and brown but spring should be about fun – letting your hair down and making daisy chains in the park. To match the ethos of hopeful and youthful spring, our clothes should be similarly spontaneous. One of the best and easiest ways to do this is through colour and pattern. As with the printed tights described below, printed skirts and dresses really do put a smile on your face and quickly update your wardrobe from dull winter to exciting spring! Pastels are also extremely popular this year looking at Wang’s and Topshop Boutique’s fascination with them for their s/s 09 collections. Print Tights ![]() Rose-patterned, leopard print, dotty, striped, snake skin, tartan: the patterned tight has evolved this season and the streets are awash with legs sporting tights of every pattern imaginable. Hosiery, like headwear, is the newest fashion fascination. So much more can be done with it than in previous years, with the newest takes on patterns, footless, stirrups, seams, hold ups, knee socks and lace edging. Patterned tights can complete any outfit and make it a bit special. But beware – these tights should be worn with care. Don’t wear them with other crazy clashing prints unless you want to look like a kid hyper on blue smarties has raided her mother’s wardrobe! That said, anyone can wear them. The best bets are simple patterns worn with plain dresses and ballet flats. Take the style of this lovely lady as a good look to follow – her gingham print is subtle enough to allow her to pull off the leopard print tights, and the black leather jacket keeps it simple too.
