What Barak Obama Needs To Learn About Fashion

Barak Obama is by far the best dressed president candidate this election. But still, there are some things Obama needs to learn about fashion.

First and foremost, wear a shirt that fits. There's no point wearing a shirt that looks like it's a size XXL when you're a size L. It's just plain stupid. Wearing a well-fitted shirt gives the people you meet a good impression of you. They'll think that you're confident, smart and successful. The shirt on the picture above just makes people think that Obama has lost an enormous amount of weight over the past years. And we bet that Obama would rather have people thinking of him as a really smart, successful guy, rather than being the winner of The Biggest Looser.

Secondly, there is no point in wearing your pants like they're high waist-pants when they're not. This is common mistake made by men in their 40s, 50s and 60s. And it makes them look much older than their real age. Barak Obama is by far not the worst case we've seen,but there's definitely some room for improvement for him.

And last, even if your a president candidate, you don't have to wear boring colors all the time. Try to stand out from the crowd. Be bold. Don't wear black pants. Choose a pair of khaki pants, and use a single colored shirt that's not white.

She is a living icon. The english supermodel has also designed clothes for Topshop. And she has featured in music videos like I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself by White Stripes. Kate, we think we love you (just don't do drugs or Doherty).

Why: His new label Tom Ford is a real killer (and he looks 30).

You've gotta love Tom Ford. He is 46 years old, but looks 15 years younger. He did a fantastic job over at Gucci, and are now doing his best to make his Tom Ford label the best label there is. The thing with his new label is that it kind of breaks every rule there is in fashion. There are now compromises to be made. Just check out the Vanity Fair cover he appeared on the front page of. What a shot!

Lagerfeld is probably the only guy that can get away with a white pony tail. And for that we shall salute him.

He has a monthly column in GQ, he has his popular blog The Sartorialist, and he is still sort of a man of mystery. Even though Times Magazine found him to be one of the top 100 design influences of all time, very few people would recognize his face on the street. Unless he has a camera with him, of course. Schuman used to work for Bergdorf Goodman before he started his blog. That's what we call a good career move.

Sk*rt Has Become Kirtsy (It Could Have Ended Worse)

As we've written about before, Sk*rt has been thinking of changing their name for some time now. Today they announced their new name. It's Kirtsy. We think the name is okay. Not more, not less.

It's not as good as Sk*rt, but it's most certainly a hundred times better than Dashpop or Kickplete, two of the names that ended up in the finale of the name contest. Now Kirtsy are starting a big contest with over $1000 in prizes (okay it's not that big) just for spreading the word and leaving a comment on their blog. This is an important contest for Kirtsy. What? Crocs With High Heels? No way...

Well, it's true. Crocs have made 3-inch heels on their new models.

If you have'nt figured it out already, we don't care much for Crocs. Or to say it as it is - we hate them. They look like hell, but still everybody is wearing them. For us they have been a symbol of the worlds lack of good taste. Just days ago we made a blog post about some mobile equipment inspired by the Crocs design. But now the people behind Crocs have released models with high heels. They're made of croslite material, but still looks kind of good.

It's hard to admit it. But we actually like this Crocs. Just don't tell anyone.

What’s With The Crazy Colors?

Just look around you, on the streets, on every music channel. Open every haute-couture or suburban-something magazine and it will hit you: the rainbow is in town, sometimes even glowing fluorescent.

Monochromy is obviously so passé and there will no doubt be some, still dazzled by the neon tones, wondering what to do with all the raving tinges. Is it all just random choice, an eeny-meeny-miny-mo between the seven colors of the spectrum (add silver and gold, as they so often come together) or can common fashion-sense help in mixing everyday clothing?

Sure it can, if you choose to follow one of the 2 approaches for this season’s color-matching:

1. Neoplasticism revival

You know it for sure, you just never knew it was called like this. To get things clear, google ‘Piet Mondrian’. There. The style is rather simple: one ought to pick one central clothing item that is either black or white (this could be just a belt, but it can also be a T-shirt or plain pair of jeans) and then clothe around it in as many of the 4 “Lego” colors: forest green, cobalt blue, lemon yellow and scarlet. Remember to also add an accent (shoes, bracelet) the same color as the main garment of choice.

2. Pick one, use one

For those who still feel awkward about mixing multiple colors and also for use with the more tricky neon tones, this dress code is simple. Decide which crazy color you like the most and put on one or (maximum) two garments of that same shade. Then dress around this foundation in matching neutral colors and remember: never lay one colorful item next to the other.

Having said these, I can only add that one should take care when choosing the shape of their pieces of equipment. Since the colors are so vivid, it would be distracting to also see lots of curves and drapes, so ‘new ravers’ should go for straight lines and basic clothing in striking colors.

Are Sk*rt For Real? (All The Suggestions Sucks)

As many of you probably know, the fabolous Sk*rt are holding a name contest these days. They want to change the name of the site. It could have been a good idea. But all they got was a pile of terrible name proposals.

We like Sk*rt. It's a fun place. It's kind of Digg, just without all the geeky and boring stuff. And it's for women mostly. Perhaps it is'nt the smartest thing in the world to have a star in your name, you will probably loose lots of potential visitors - simply because they don't know how to write the name of the site in the browser! But the name is quite cute very memorable. We heard it once, and we remembered it forever. So we're very comfortable with the name.

In most cases a name contest is'nt a bad idea. You get lots of PR and you'll probably get lots of good name proposals. But in this case all of the propsals sucks. Sk*rt is better than all these stupid names. Or what do you think? Give us your opinion in the comments-field.

Oh... Did Someone Delete Your Picture?

A lot of you have already experienced just that. Now let's explain why.

Even if hurts every time we do it, we have to delete several pictures from Fashhh every day. The reason is simple - everyone uploading a picture to Fashhh will be thrown into the image carousel, and that very picture will be displayed to a lot of people. And since we're aiming to be a gallery over the worlds latest street fashion, it would be a bit odd if a lot of the pictures were very bad both in techincal quality and in the sence of fashion.

If this world was an ideal one, every photo uploaded would be superb, and we would'nt have to remove the ones we think don't fit on this site. But since we live in a real, not ideal, world, we can instead provide you with some basic tips on how to get a great picture for your Fashhh profile. Good luck. Here we go:

Photo rule #1: Try To Show The Entire Outfit If Possible

People visiting Fashhh are interested in checking out your entire outfit. Try to get the whole body in the picture. If you can't take the picture yourself, get someone else to hold the camera. Just watch the difference between these two photos. Daniel Sowe (left) really manage to show off his entire outfit from head to toe. The girl to the right just show off her glasses really. Because she is sitting, you can't really decide wether the fit on her shirt is good or bad as well. It's no wonder that Sowes picture is in the Global top 5 images, while the other one is'nt.

Photo rule #2: Make Sure The Outfit Is In Focus

People here don't want to see your livingroom, they don't want to see four other people in the photo, and they don't like it when the picture has been taken 100 feet away from you. Try to stand upstraight in front of the lens. Stine Mo (to the left) has it all figured out. Great picture with total focus on the outfit. In contrast Lone Bru Kjær has uploaded a picture that really takes focus away from her lovely dress. The guy to the right, the beer, the time stamp, the strange angel. It all destroys what could have been a perfectly good picture.

Photo rule #3: Headshots Are A Big No-No, Unless ...

We don't like headshots. But we do like cool details like very original glasses and stuff, and when a image shows off the details in a good way, then we can accept headshots. But it gotta be outstanding. Kathrine Opdahl has uploaded a cool image showing off her new blue sunglasses in New York (left). That works. The image of the guy to the right doesn't (not from Fashhh).

Photo rule #4:Technical Quality Is Important After All

We're not a stock photo bureu, so we're not superconcerned about technical quality. But we do prefer sharp images that shows details in the picture, and we hate images of bad techical quality. If you're not sure how big the file should be when you upload it, then upload it at a size of at least a few hundred kilobytes.

Photo rule #5: It's Cool To Have Multiple Images In One Image

Some outfits looks very different from different angles. If you have an outfit like that, you can do as Sina Sook Kleven. It looks cool and it really gives a good impression of the outfit.
